when purchasing MagicTrap at the AgroCloud website.
For error-free linking of the physical MagicTrap with the MagicScout software,
the license code you have received when buying the license should be
entered in the MagicScout app exactly as specified. If you have linked a
license with a wrong account by mistake, we can also adjust the license
manually. Please send a short message to our customer service and we will
take care of it as soon as possible!
You can enter your promotional code during the MagicTrap license order
process.

Tired of counting canola pests by hand? MagicTrap has a high-resolution camera that photographs the contents of your yellow trap at regular intervals and sends them to the MagicScout app over the mobile network.
The images are automatically analyzed and the results are then made available on your smartphone.

MagicTrap detects canola pests automatically using our intelligent image recognition.
We use artificial intelligence (AI) for image recognition. Our models are continuously trained to recognize patterns in images. We have a growing data archive comprising thousands of images to train the software.
This archive contains photos of yellow pods in different positions and lighting conditions from multiple angles, as well as several reference images of typical rapeseed pests.

Your MagicTrap’s LED display not only provides information about the remaining battery charge, but also shows whether your MagicTrap is successfully connected to the MagicScout app and your radio signal quality at the installation site.
Note that the more LED lights you have on, the better your wireless signal. To check, press and hold the function button on the side of your device until the LEDs start flashing:
1 blue LED on: Signal strength bad
2 blue LEDs on: Signal strength medium
3 blue LEDs on: Signal strength good
Important: Please change your trap if it receives a weak signal or only "EDGE", so that it can send images reliably.

The reservoir stores 1 liter of water. After filling and aligning the yellow bowl horizontally, the water runs evenly.
Of course, in hot, sunny weather, the water will evaporate more quickly than on colder days. However, under normal weather conditions, the reservoir should provide water for up to three weeks.
Filling the water tank
- Remove the bee guard and camera module.
- If your MagicTrap is attached to a pole, you can hang the bee guard on the hook of the bracket.
- Hold the trap vertically so that the water reservoir is tilted down.
- Fill the reservoir with one liter of water by carefully pouring it into the slit-shaped opening with a small amount of dishwashing liquid.

-
From the MagicScout app, select your trap under “MagicTraps”
-
Go to “Show menu” item at the top-right of the screen
-
Select “Edit location description”
After you have connected your MagicTrap to the MagicScout app (see Connecting), you will be prompted to name the trap.
You can then specify the location and change it at any time in the MagicScout app.
- From the MagicScout app, select your trap under “MagicTrap”
- Go to the “Show menu” item at the top-right of the screen
- Select “Edit location”
- Select the button below to select a new location for your trap on your field map

The MagicTrap should be set up as close as possible to the planted oilseed rape and be within the reception range of a GSM radio cell (“mobile radio”). The LED indicator shows how strong the radio signal is.
For more information, see LED indicators .
If beetles are positioned on each other or the water is contaminated, incorrect results may occur.
For reliable results, the trap should be cleaned at least every three weeks, or more often if necessary (depending on contamination and weather).

Note: Make sure that any detergents used do not contain plastic solvents as these could lead to serious damage.
The MagicTrap is typically in deep sleep mode most of the day. No LEDs will flash in this mode.
The MagicTrap turns off to save energy for cloudy/rainy days. It only wakes up at certain times to send a status and/or image.
The trap’s wake-up times are based on local weather data. On sunny days, they are as follows:
- 8 am: Status (battery, signal, etc.)
- 12 noon: Status + image
- 4 pm: Status + image
- 8 pm: Status
Hint:
You can track the future wake-up times of the trap at any time in the MagicScout app, but you cannot change them manually.

- From the main screen in the MagicScout app, select your trap under “MagicTraps”
- Select a given field and review data under “Next recordings” section
To ensure that you continue to enjoy your MagicTrap for seasons to come, we recommend storing your trap as follows:
- Dry and at room temperature
- Switched off with about 40-60 % battery (equivalent to two LED lights)
However, before returning the MagicTrap to use, you should fully charge it again. It will then be ready to support you in your observations.
Note: Due to its technical components, the camera module of the MagicTrap must be protected from permanent frost. Battery life will be strongly affected otherwise. Light frost over short periods is no problem, however, and the MagicTrap can remain in the field.
If your MagicTrap is broken or no longer in use, it can of course be disposed of. Do not, however, dispose of old devices with household waste. You should instead use a special collection and returns system.
Observe the local regulations and dispose of electronic parts at a recycling center for example.
We are cooperating with several qualified recycling companies to support the return of old devices. If a device manufactured by us has reached the end of its life and you would like to return it, please contact:
https://www.take-e-way.de/leistungen/elektrogesetz-weee-elektrog/b2b-altgeraete-ruecknahme-entsorgung/ and fill out the questionnaire.
Quick tip:
End-of-life devices often contain sensitive personal data. This is particularly true of information and telecommunications technology devices such as computers and smartphones. In your own interest, please note that end users are responsible for deleting the data on the old devices to be disposed of. You can request data erasure here.
If you need support on MagicTrap, please use the AgroCloud contact form.
You can also forward questions and problems to us at any time via our MagicScout app:

- From the main screen in the Magic Scout app, go to the “Profile” menu
- Select the “Support and Requests” menu
- Select “Report issue”
- Complete and submit the “Report Problem form”
If your MagicTrap is not sending images, there are two simple fixes to try first:
1. Restarting the MagicTrap camera module
2. Reset the MagicTrap camera module if step 1 was not successful

Unfortunately, your MagicTrap is not sending any signals. There can be several reasons for this, including a weak cellular signal. Try a new location and then restart the MagicTrap camera.
Important note: When installing the MagicTrap for the first time, the camera module should only be switched on after pairing with the MagicScout app so that the first image is displayed immediately. If you only link the trap afterwards, it can take several hours until the next signal arrives in the MagicScout app.
Did you accidentally connect your MagicTrap to the wrong account first?
Please delete the trap from your MagicScout app before logging in with the correct account. This will ensure that your trap is automatically unlocked again.

If your MagicTrap cannot be linked either by QR code or manual input, please contact the AgroCloud customer service.

Does a message appear, saying that you don’t have a MagicTrap license even though you ordered one?
Please note: your license is linked to the e-mail address you registered for the MagicScout app, not necessarily the one you provided when purchasing MagicTrap at the AgroCloud website.
If you keep having problems with your MagicTrap license registration in the MagicScout app, please contact our customer service.

The LEDs initially go through several stages after switching on:
- Yellow charging animation after switching on
- Green LEDs for battery status
- Blue LEDs for signal status
- Middle LED flashes yellow to indicate in operation
The MagicTrap takes around 5 minutes to restart. The LEDs will turn off and an image should appear in the MagicScout app.

The solution to some problems can be quite simple:
- Trap is in the switched-on state;
- LEDs are off, press covered button, left of yellow switch-on lever for approx. 3-5 seconds with a paper clip or similar.
- LEDs start flashing (charging animation)
The trap takes around 5 minutes to restart. The LEDs will turn off and an image should appear in the MagicScout app.

- Also check that the other person has logged into the MagicScout app with the correct account.

Make sure the other person has the latest MagicScout app version installed.
- For invited people to access your MagicTrap, you must have the MagicScout app version 1.51.4 or newer.
- The invitation will not be sent by e-mail, but will appear directly in the MagicScout app.

Artificial intelligence
Your shots are analyzed in seconds using the latest technology and artificial intelligence. Our models are continuously trained to recognize patterns in images.
Training data
We have a growing data archive comprising thousands of images to train the software.
This archive contains photos of crops in different growth stages and lighting conditions from multiple angles, as well as several reference images of typical canola pests in yellow trays.
For optimal image recognition in the MagicScout app, please keep in mind the following:
Good light
Good exposure is essential. Make sure it is neither too dark nor too light. In sunny conditions, avoid casting shade on the subject.
Tip: Before photographing a dark subject, use the flash on your phone to ensure the subject is as clear as possible.
Bad light
Our built-in flash function consigns poor lighting conditions to history.
Open scan mode by selecting the "Camera" function in the bottom bar of the MagicScout app. You can now activate or deactivate your smartphone’s flash by selecting the flash icon.
Note: Using the exposure function further reduces the phone’s battery life.
Good angle
For optimum recognition, photograph the weed or disease from directly above (at a 90-degree angle). This will keep all details visible and avoid distortions. When photographing the weeds, leave them in place and do not pull them out of the ground.
Good distance
For optimum results, the object should be in the foreground. Other leaves or plants in the picture may prevent image recognition. So, for weeds, try to have only soil in the background. To identify diseases, you can hold the affected leaf steady in your hand to bring it into the foreground.
Good quality
Shaky and unfocused images significantly affect image recognition. To prevent this, tap the weed once to focus the object automatically.

You can see your profile data under “Profile” in the MagicScout app. Select “Personal and Account data”, then “Personal data”. Click on “Edit” (top right corner) to change your first name and family name.
You will also find your current MagicTrap software license under “Profile”, then “Personal and Account Settings” and then “Account Management”.
Our team continues to develop the MagicScout app, so updates are available every few weeks. To stay up to date, we recommend that you enable automatic updates on your device.
Update iPhone apps automatically:
- Open your “Settings”.
- Select App Store.
- Activate the “App Updates” option.
Update Android apps automatically:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Select the profile icon in the upper right corner.
- Select Settings "Network settings", then select "Automatic app updates".
Want to save data by not running updates or synchronizing data when using the mobile network? No problem! Just deactivate the function in the MagicScout app.
Disable synchronization via mobile data

- From the MagicScout main screen menu at the bottom, go to “Profile” menu
- Open to the “App settings” menu
- Go to the “Data and storage” menu
- Disable “Use mobile data”
Enable/disable observations:
By disabling this feature in the MagicScout app, recorded observations can only be shared when you are actively connected to a WLAN. This will also result in a delay in receiving the results of the image analysis.
Enable/disable camera settings:
If the camera settings are disabled in the MagicScout app, updates for these settings can only be shared when you are actively connected to a WLAN. So if there are new image recognition models, these will only be downloaded when connected to a WLAN.
MagicScout can also optimize your storage space!

- From the MagicScout main screen menu at the bottom, go to “Profile” menu
- Go to the “App settings” menu
- Go to the “Data and storage” menu at app settings
- Enable the “Optimise local storage” function
If you activate this function, the data will only be stored in compressed form on your device. If you want to view a single image in full resolution, you can select it to download it automatically.
The image recognition hit rate depends very much on the quality of the image.
Please see the information in the MagicScout’s Optimal Photo Quality section.
Bad connection on the field?
We recommend downloading the required models to your phone via Wi-Fi beforehand. Recognition works even faster offline than online with image analysis in the cloud. Try it out!
