Why does the agricultural sector need ResiYou?
Residues of crop protection products in food are perceived negatively by consumers. Consequently, food retailers have set quality standards concerning residues – the so-called “private standards” or “secondary standards” – that go way beyond legal requirements. Nowadays, these residue requirements from the food chain are one of the main challenges our clients are facing daily. Combined with outbreaks of pests or diseases that require additional sprays to maintain the quality of the produce, there are many other factors that leave growers with a high level of uncertainty about where to market their produce after harvest, including erratic weather patterns or constantly changing regulations regarding crop protection products, the availability of crop protection products and associated import tolerances. This was the finding of many direct grower interviews and led to the idea of developing a solution that can predict crop protection product residue levels.
Who will be able to use ResiYou?
The primary target user for ResiYou is the crop protection decision maker, who has access to the necessary data (spray data) for making predictions.
The tool's insights provide value along the entire food value chain, so users beyond the farm are also considered.
Which horticultural crops does ResiYou cover?
ResiYou currently offers residue predictions for various crops, including popular choices like strawberries, pome and stone fruits.
Ongoing development means new crops are being added to the platform continuously. Subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest updates!
Which active ingredients are we covering with our ResiYou solution?
In the ResiYou application, users can see the status of the substance – whether it is supported by the prediction model, experimental, or not supported. Experimental means that the accuracy of the residue prediction model is being tested for the specific substance. Unsupported substances are also highlighted in the prediction screen in the unsupported substance section.
Does ResiYou cover non-Bayer products?
ResiYou has been developed to cover products on the market, regardless of the manufacturer.
What type of functionalities does ResiYou offer to its users?
ResiYou predicts residue dissipation at harvest. Users can simulate sprays, compare predictions, and check compliance with secondary and legal standards. Using the calendar view, users can also see which plot is ready for the selected supermarket at a given date.
What role do weather conditions play in predicting residues?
The residues that are present in the crop at harvest depend on the weather conditions on the day of spray application and the intervening time till harvest, as well as on crop development. The ResiYou model developed considers several weather forecasting dimensions and actual past weather for the period.
What is a ResiYou prediction?
A prediction is a forecast generated by the ResiYou mathematical model, which calculates the level of active substances in plant protection products. It considers the data entered by the user and those required by the system, based on weather data and a vast database of results from laboratory residue tests.
When you buy a ResiYou license, you buy a specific number of predictions that you can use to make predictions of residue levels in your crops. The result of each prediction is valid for 200 days and can be checked against the requirements of all recipients of fruit active in the ResiYou system.
How accurate are the ResiYou predictions?
ResiYou provides probabilistic estimations of residue concentrations. For each harvest date, ResiYou displays a “best estimate” residue value, based on the most likely residue concentration (in mg/kg) foreseen at that date. Remarkably, if you were to take multiple fruit samples at a chosen harvest date, the average concentration of residues would come closer and closer to the “best estimate” provided by ResiYou.
What data is needed to generate a residue level forecast?
The data required is the basic information about the plot, such as location (GPS coordinates or address information), type of crop, name of the variety, growing environment (open field or protected), and date of transplant for annual crops or date of flowering for perennial crops.
Next, it is necessary to record some information about the spray program applied, such as date of treatment, sprayed product name, sprayed dose rate and sprayed water volume.
Who can see the data I share in ResiYou?
The data uploaded or entered inResiYou belongs to the data owner (the user who enters it) under the EULA and Data Privacy statement described for ResiYou.
What is our approach to missing substances that are not supported in ResiYou?
There are three main strategies for extending coverage to missing substances. These are as follows:
Conducting dedicated field trials to capture the missing data.
Promoting the capture of additional data during commercial set up. Users could be rewarded for providing analytical data gathered in their plots.
Triggering the capture of publicly available data.
How do we define the overall plot risk level in ResiYou?
The overall plot risk level indicates the statistical probability (from 0 to 100%) of a plot failing to comply with any of the requirements of the selected supermarket or platform. This overall risk considers jointly the corresponding risks of failing to comply with individual requirements, namely:
Exceeding the maximum permitted number of substances
Exceeding the maximum permitted percentage of individual MRLs
Exceeding the maximum permitted sum of MRL percentages
Exceeding the maximum permitted percentage of individual ARfDs
Exceeding the maximum permitted sum of ARfD percentages
Exceeding the maximum permitted percentage of individual PRP-ULs
Exceeding the LOQ for any blacklisted substance
Risk of traces exceeding the LOQ
How do I export from ResiYou a list of applied protection treatments to a file?
In the list of plots, select the specific plot to be exported. Click on the “View spray list” icon. Select the treatments you want to export. In the upper right-hand corner of the page, click on the three dots. After expanding the menu, select the type of file to which the treatment program is to be exported (.csv or .pdf)
Where can I check how many ResiYou predictions I have used and how many are left?
In the ResiYou app, you will find a link in your account menu that enables you to review all the predictions that have been triggered, when and by whom (if you are the account admin).
How long does the process of creating a ResiYou customer account take?
The account creation and therefore access to ResiYou platform is almost immediate.
How long are the ResiYou licenses I purchased (predictions) valid?
For one year from the date of activation. After this time, unused predictions are removed from the account.
Is it important in ResiYou to determine exactly where our crop is located?
Yes, this is very important because the model collects location data to match the weather data as accurately as possible. This data is included in the calculations, so the better the location of the crop is defined, the more accurate the residue level forecasts received.
What is the difference between a real treatment and a simulation in ResiYou?
A real treatment is one that took place in the past or is taking place “today” and is a real treatment, while a resiYou simulation concerns treatments that are planned for the future. You can create several simulations to, for example, compare different products and different hypothetical situations.
Can I find products in ResiYou that are not registered?
No, ResiYou only supports legal solutions.
What does “actual or expected flowering start date” mean?
When creating a plot, the system asks for the flowering date, and if you are creating records for a plantation that is blooming or has already faded, enter this time precisely, as it is an important element of the calculations and determines the accuracy of the forecasts. However, if you are creating a plot before the flowering period, enter the approximate time, and before generating the prediction (forecast), correct this time to the actual flowering time to obtain the most accurate forecast.
What do the colors in the forecast results mean?
Yellow means that there is a medium risk (probability 20-50%) of exceeding the residue level required by the recipient. Red means high risk (probability 50-100%), and it is almost certain that the level required by the recipient will be exceeded.
What are traces?
Traces are substances whose predicted levels are below the default Limit of Quantification (LOQ), which is set at 0.01 ppm.
Why are strawberries being used as the first pilot crop in ResiYou?
Strawberries have a rolling harvest, meaning they are harvested every 1-3 days during the peak of the harvest season. Secondly, strawberries are fragile and crop protection is crucial in farm operations to ensure good quality produce. These 2 factors – the rolling harvest and the need for intense crop management – make strawberries a difficult crop in which to manage residue levels.
In which countries is ResiYou being tested?
The first pilot areas for the concept are in Spain. In the current test phase, the geographical reach is being expanded to other countries, such as Morocco, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Greece, Netherlands, and Belgium.
What are the plans for the expansion/scale-up of ResiYou?
ResiYou is currently covering Strawberries, Peaches, Nectarines, Apricots, Grapes (table & wine), Apples, Pears & Plums. We are working to add Tomatoes, Peppers & Cucumbers.
What is a ResiYou prediction?
A prediction is a forecast generated by the ResiYou mathematical model, which calculates the level of active substances in plant protection products. It considers the data entered by the user and those required by the system, based on weather data and a vast database of results from laboratory residue tests. A prediction includes results for any date and compliance level with any of the retailers supported.
